Position Summary

The Pharmacist is responsible for preparing and dispensing medications, overseeing pharmacy technicians, and ensuring the accuracy and safety of all drug therapy provided to patients. This position supports the healthcare team by offering pharmacological expertise and contributing to positive patient outcomes.

Essential Functions

  • Review and interpret physician medication orders for accuracy, dosage, and patient safety
  • Prepare and dispense prescribed medications according to professional standards and regulatory guidelines
  • Supervise and direct pharmacy support staff in day-to-day functions
  • Monitor patient responses to medications and identify potential adverse reactions
  • Provide drug information to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers
  • Maintain accurate records of all controlled substances and monitor compliance
  • Ensure that medication storage and dispensing complies with infection control, safety, and regulatory standards
  • Participate in clinical rounds or case discussions, as required
  • Perform quality assurance checks and participate in departmental audits

Qualifications

  • Holds an active Texas Pharmacist license (TX)
  • Possesses at least 1 year of inpatient hospital experience (preferred)
  • Omnicell and meditech experience (preferred)
  • Degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail
  • High adaptability and ability to function in high-acuity care setting
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy required; PharmD preferred
  • Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of Texas
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting preferred
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical calculations, drug interactions, and contraindications
  • Proficiency with pharmacy information systems and automated dispensing systems
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in preparing and dispensing medications

Responsibilities

  • If you're a licensed pharmacist with inpatient experience, this is your opportunity to make an impact in a high-acuity setting
  • Schedule: variable weekday 8 hour shifts, majority will be 0900-1730 - staffing every 3rd weekend
  • Level of Care: Level 3 Trauma Center | Level 1 NICU  | Accredited orthopedic surgery, stroke, chest pain center
  • Fulfill all core inpatient pharmacy operations, including sterile and non-sterile compounding
  • Manage omnicell restocks and respond to incoming provider/pharmacy requests
  • Verify orders and provide critical support to nursing and medical teams
  • Ensure accurate medication dispensing in a fast-paced, full-service hospital environment
  • Serve a large rural and regional population across Northeast Texas and Southeast Oklahoma
  • Contribute to a hospital offering the highest level of care within a 70-mile radius
