Work Environment

The role is set within a correctional facility located in the remote and picturesque Arctic Village of Alaska. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive diagnostic interviews to evaluate patients’ current psychological needs and establish an effective treatment plan.
• Administer, score, and interpret a range of psychological assessments to accurately gauge mental health conditions.
• Provide both individual and group therapy sessions, utilizing evidence-based practices such as trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy and family counseling techniques.
• Collaborate with medical personnel to address and understand the mental health status of patients, ensuring integrated care across all disciplines.
• Document treatment progress, assessments, and competency evaluations through detailed reports that support patient management.
• Actively participate in treatment team meetings, contributing insights and recommendations based on patient assessments.
• Engage in supervisory roles for trainees and new staff, guiding them through their professional development in psychiatric care.
• Design and implement research initiatives or program evaluations aimed at enhancing psychological services and contributing to the field of behavioral health.
• Present behavioral health topics and programs to the community, aiding in mental health awareness and education.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The Clinical Psychologist will primarily serve an incarcerated population, often managing complex cases that may include co-occurring mental health disorders, trauma histories, and behavioral issues. This role requires a firm yet empathetic approach to patient care, understanding the barriers that incarcerated individuals face in accessing mental health services. Your expertise will be crucial in providing meaningful interventions that promote recovery, rehabilitation, and respect for each individual's dignity and rights.

Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in Psychology or a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree is required.
• Current licensure by the Alaska State Board of Psychologist Examiners, with no restrictions or disciplinary actions.
• Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is essential.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a treatment team.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and adaptability in response to the evolving needs of patients and the clinical environment.

Preferred Experience

• A minimum of two years of post-doctoral experience in clinical psychology, particularly in correctional or forensic settings.

• Familiarity with correctional health care systems and the unique challenges faced by incarcerated individuals.

Compensation and Benefits
