Position Overview

Gums & Grins Dental Services in Amarillo, Texas, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Dental Assistant to join our dynamic team. This full-time, onsite position requires a passionate individual to assist our dental professionals in delivering high-quality care to our patients. Under the supervision of the Dental Supervisor RDA-Clinic Coordinator, Dentist, or Chief Dental Officer, the Dental Assistant will perform a variety of critical tasks that contribute to a smooth-flowing clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up treatment areas, ensuring that all necessary instruments and materials are available for procedures.
• Assist the dentist and dental hygienist during various treatment procedures, including examinations, fillings, and extractions.
• Take and develop dental radiographs (x-rays) accurately following established protocols and ensure patient safety.
• Provide patients with comprehensive post-treatment care instructions to enhance recovery and promote oral health.
• Maintain and sterilize dental instruments and equipment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Take accurate impressions of patients' teeth for study casts and purposefully document findings and treatments in patient records.
• Support the dental team by applying non-aerosol topical agents and assisting in the removal of menstrual dressings as necessary.
• Prepare and manage patient charts, keeping careful records of treatments and progress.
• Attend regular departmental and organization-wide meetings to discuss patient care improvements and staff training needs.
• Contribute actively to quality improvement initiatives and engagement in performance improvement teams.
• Observe ethical standards and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
• Assist in the orientation and training of new team members, ensuring a cohesive team dynamic.
• Be flexible and willing to take on additional responsibilities as directed by supervisors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required; proof is mandatory.
• A minimum of one year of professional experience as a dental assistant in a clinical setting is essential.
• Successful completion of Radiation Health and Safety and Infection Control examinations.
• Possession of a valid X-Ray Certificate and current CPR certification are mandatory for this role.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are pivotal for effective patient interaction and team collaboration.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care and compliance with healthcare protocols.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working in an outpatient dental office setting desirable.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and dental software.
• Background in assisting with orthodontic procedures is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

This full-time position offers a competitive salary range of USD 40,000 – 60,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
