Located on the corner of Plantation Road and 6 Mile Cypress Parkway in beautiful Fort Myers, we provide Assisted Living, Memory Support, and Skilled Care Services (Post-Acute Rehabilitation & Long-term care).

POSITION SUMMARY
The Health Unit Coordinator is responsible for facilitating the maintenance of medical records, transcribing orders, scheduling appointments and transportation for program participants. The Health Unit Coordinator role models the customer service expectation on the station. Prioritizes, organizes and coordinates administrative activities to facilitate smooth, efficient unit operations. Performs clerical and non-nursing administrative tasks for the resident unit. Serves as the receptionist/communicator for the resident unit.

1. Record medical and administrative information in accordance with established charting and documentation policies and procedures.
2. Maintain and update roster of residents for assigned unit.
3. Answer telephone calls, page calls, deliver messages to residents, etc.
4. Transcribe doctor’s orders as per facility policy. Acknowledges and coordinates the communication of physician’s orders.
5. Tracks due dates of physician order renewal.
6. Coordinate physician call log and fax log.
7. Faxes appropriate information to the pharmacy, lab and clinics as directed by the nurses and physician orders.
8. Record appropriate resident identification data on designated medical records, wristbands, ID cards, resident personal property, etc., as required.
9. Reports to the Nurse Supervisor/Nurse Manager discrepancies found in transcribing physician orders, diet orders/changes, charting, etc.
10. Taking doctor’s orders over the phone and transcribing into PCC EMAR, MAR’s and TARS’s.

1. Graduate of a HUC education program if applicable or LPN or completion of a medical transcription course preferred.
2. Prior experience as a Health Unit Coordinator in health care preferred.
3. Effective communicator with staff, families and outside agencies.
4. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
5. Ability to prioritize
6. Knowledge of current Infection Prevention Control and OSHA guidelines.
