Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or equivalent Associate or Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience preferred. Three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity preferred. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, coaches, evaluates, rewards, disciplines, and when necessary, terminates employees working in the Hospital Business Office department.

Directs the front office in the proper procedures, such as meeting with the patient and obtaining all required information and proper signatures on all forms, filling out the proper information and data on insurance companies, Worker's Compensation, Medicare & Medicaid forms, and insurance forms. Records all the hospital's financial transactions and payments on patient accounts daily into accounts receivable and write deposit for bank. Combine and charge out all inpatient and outpatient accounts for each day.

Run proper reports for the days charges. Processes insurance claims for all payors. Helps with answering of incoming calls on multiline phone system, transfers calls to proper departments, and pages personnel over intercom as needed.

Helps individuals with inquiries on medical prices, such as surgical costs, merchandise costs, etc. Makes schedule for office employees, assuring adequate coverage on a daily basis. May be required to travel to attend work-related meetings and educational opportunities.

Attends Department Head, department and in-service meetings. Perform all duties assigned by supervisor or CEO. ADDITIONAL TASKS Treats all residents and patients with dignity and respect.

Promotes and protects all residents and patients rights. Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures. Complies with standards of business conduct, and state/federal regulations and guidelines.

Follows appropriate safety and hygiene measures at all times to protect residents, patients, and themselves. Understands and demonstrates knowledge of infection control practices, Universal Precautions, OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standard, and follows compliance with established policies and procedures. Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.

Reports noncompliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate personnel. Reports any retaliation or discrimination to HR or CEO Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator. Protects residents and patients from abuse and cooperates with all investigations.

Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy. Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facilitys emergency plan.

Reports work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor. Follows established infection control policies and procedures. As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.

PERSONAL SKILLS AND TRAITS DESIRED/ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to exercise judgement.

Must have adaptable, friendly, polite, courteous and caring attitude to meet the needs of all patients and staff. Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork. Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, patients, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public. Must have patience, tact, and willingness to deal with difficult residents, patients, family and staff. Must not pose a threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk while working on a computer. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.

Must possess outstanding organization and leadership skills, thorough understanding on management theories, and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and to organize, plan, and manage time effectively to complete assignments. Must have the mental capability to keep informed of new methods and technology.

Meets general health requirements according to facility policy, including medical and physical exams and checking immunity status to various infectious diseases. Ability to assist in evacuation of residents and patients during emergency situations. Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases and/or conditions which include AIDS, Coronavirus, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.

May be subject to falls, burns from equipment, and/or odors throughout the day; encounter reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants. May be subject to hostile or emotional residents, patients, family members, visitors or personnel. Intermediate computer skills, including ability to create documents in various programs (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Adobe), and navigate electronic medical record systems and various claim software programs.

Ability to operate postage, fax, and copy machines, and multiline phone system. Works in well-lit, ventilated area. Subject to frequent interruptions.

Communicates with patients, medical and nursing staff, other departments, and external companies and facilities. Subject to call-back during emergency conditions.
