Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) to provide nursing support at a detox and residential treatment facility in Des Moines, IA. This facility serves an adult, co-ed population with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions (dual diagnosis).
The ideal candidate will provide direct nursing care, medication administration, withdrawal monitoring, documentation, and coordination with the clinical and medical team. Candidates should demonstrate strong clinical judgment, professionalism, and experience in behavioral health, detoxification, residential treatment, or related healthcare settings.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care and support to clients in a detox/residential treatment setting.
- Monitor clients for signs and symptoms of withdrawal, medical concerns, behavioral changes, and overall stability.
- Administer medications in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, and nursing regulations.
- Complete medication administration records accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform nursing assessments, obtain vital signs, and conduct ongoing client observations.
- Communicate changes in client condition or medical concerns to the appropriate medical provider and clinical team.
- Provide medication education, health education, and basic wellness support to clients.
- Assist with admissions, discharges, and client transitions.
- Document nursing notes, medication administration, incidents, assessments, and other required records.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality standards, facility policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, case managers, and behavioral health staff to ensure coordinated client care.
- Respond appropriately to medical, psychiatric, and behavioral emergencies.
- Promote a safe, structured, and therapeutic treatment environment.
- Maintain professional boundaries while providing compassionate, client-centered care.
- Participate in shift handoff and communicate relevant client updates to incoming staff.
Qualifications
- Active RN or LPN/LVN license in the State of Iowa.
- Previous experience in detoxification, residential treatment, behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, psychiatric care, or a similar healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience working with adult dual diagnosis populations preferred.
- Knowledge of medication administration, withdrawal monitoring, documentation, and client safety practices.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, professional, and comfortable working in a per diem role.
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or required upon hire.
- Experience using Electronic Health Records (EHR) preferred.
