Work Environment

This full-time position is based onsite at our hospital facility, ensuring that you are an integral part of the healthcare team. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations to accurately assess and diagnose residents’ mental health conditions.
• Design and implement individualized treatment plans that address the particular complexities of geriatric psychiatry, paying special attention to memory disorders and mood alterations.
• Provide expert medication management, closely monitoring drug interactions and side effects while adjusting prescriptions as needed for optimal outcomes.
• Collaborate proactively with caregivers, nursing staff, and other therapists to maintain a holistic approach to resident care.
• Engage in ongoing education and training to stay updated on best practices in geriatric psychiatry and continuously improve service delivery.
• Offer psychoeducation and therapeutic support to residents and their families, helping them navigate the challenges associated with mental health issues in aging.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Your focus will be on elderly individuals, particularly those facing mental health challenges such as dementia, depression, anxiety, and end-of-life issues. Understanding the specific mental health dynamics that affect older adults will be crucial to your success, as will your ability to build rapport and trust with residents who may be experiencing significant emotional distress.

Qualifications

• Medical Doctor (MD) with a specialization in Psychiatry from an accredited medical institution.
• Active and unrestricted state licensure as a Psychiatrist in Connecticut.
• Strong theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in the field of geriatric psychiatry.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with a diverse resident population and a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
• Empathy and understanding toward the challenges faced by elderly individuals related to mental health.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in geriatric psychiatric care or within a nursing facility focused on elderly populations is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems to document care and manage treatment plans.
• Background in addressing mood disorders and cognitive impairments among older adults.

Compensation and Benefits
