Key Responsibilities

• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing based on established criteria to ensure the integrity of results.
• Perform both routine and complex technical procedures according to the department’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to meet regulatory compliance.
• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation, ensuring all equipment functions correctly to maintain the efficiency of laboratory operations.
• Utilize your problem-solving skills to make informed technical decisions regarding testing processes while analyzing results for discrepancies.
• Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls to validate their performance for use in diagnostic testing.
• Report accurate and timely test results, recognizing the impact these results have on patient care and treatment decisions.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and quality control procedures on laboratory equipment, while documenting all relevant actions in compliance with industry standards.
• Maintain an adequate supply of testing bench materials; this includes identifying and replenishing supplies as necessary to avoid disruptions in workflow.
• Assist with specimen processing activities during high-volume periods, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in laboratory operations.
• Uphold safety protocols by maintaining a clean and safe work environment while using personal protective equipment as appropriate.

In this role, you will serve a diverse patient population, including individuals requiring routine health screenings, chronic disease management, and acute care diagnostics. Your work as a Medical Technologist directly influences the quality of patient outcomes through precise lab results that inform doctors’ decisions and improve treatment plans.

Qualifications

• Hold a valid state licensure as a Medical Technologist, or be eligible for licensure as directed by Chapter 483 of Florida statutes.
• Specialization in Microbiology, Serology/Immunology, Immunohematology, Clinical Chemistry, and/or Hematology is required, depending on departmental needs.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical experience is essential, ensuring familiarity with laboratory protocols and quality assurance standards.
• Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for effective communication with healthcare team members and patients alike.
• Proficient computer skills are required for managing laboratory information systems and electronic health records.

Preferred Experience

• Prior experience in a hospital laboratory setting is preferred, with exposure to high-volume testing procedures and complex instrumentation.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, showcasing your flexibility and responsiveness to changing situations.
