Licensed Mental Health Counselor for Child & Adolescent Care

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our esteemed Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Office at the Health Disorder Mental and Counseling Center. This full-time position will involve providing remote mental health therapy via telehealth, allowing you to make a significant impact in the lives of young people throughout West Hempstead, New York.

Work Environment

This role offers a remote work setting, utilizing telehealth technology to provide therapy and support. You will be part of a collaborative team that values open communication and a multidisciplinary approach. The typical work schedule is Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional evening shifts as required by patient needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments to thoroughly evaluate the psychological, emotional, and social needs of children and adolescents.
• Develop and implement tailored treatment plans that incorporate the developmental stages of young patients and consider family dynamics.
• Utilize evidence-based therapeutic methods to address a wide array of mental health challenges, ensuring a personalized approach to each case.
• Facilitate family therapy sessions aimed at empowering parents and caregivers to foster a supportive and nurturing home environment.
• Work collaboratively with child psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated and holistic care to young clients.
• Respond to mental health crises by providing immediate support and crisis intervention strategies when children and adolescents require urgent care.
• Educate both patients and their families about mental health, treatment options, and available community resources to promote understanding and engagement.
• Maintain meticulous and confidential documentation of each patient interaction, ensuring adherence to legal and ethical guidelines.
• Participate in team meetings and case consultations to share insights and strategies for continuous improvement in patient care.
• Stay updated on the latest research, best practices, and developments in child and adolescent mental health to enhance the quality of therapy provided.

Patient Population / Client Focus

This role primarily focuses on children and adolescents struggling with an array of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and behavioral disorders. Your work will directly contribute to improving the emotional well-being and overall quality of life for these young individuals and their families.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling is required.
• Must hold a current and valid license in the state of New York as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or similar.
• A minimum of two years of experience in mental health counseling, particularly with children and adolescents, is preferred.
• Strong understanding of child development, therapeutic modalities, and evidence-based practices related to youth mental health.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a genuine commitment to a child-centered therapeutic approach.
• Proficient in the use of electronic health records (EHR), telehealth platforms, and other software for therapy documentation and communication.
• A collaborative spirit and the capability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in providing therapy both individually and to families.
• Knowledge of community resources and support systems available for families.
• Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques specific to younger populations.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of USD 100,000 to 120,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
