Licensed Mental Health Therapist for Geriatric Care - Remote

Kessler Counseling Center is seeking a dedicated and fully licensed Mental Health Therapist to join our remote team specializing in geriatric psychiatry. Work Environment

This position is completely remote, offering you the flexibility to work from home while remaining connected to a team of experienced geriatric psychiatrists and mental health professionals. You will utilize telehealth technology to conduct assessments and therapy sessions, ensuring that you can provide care to patients in the comfort of their own environments. Our work hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the possibility of occasional evening shifts based on patient needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough mental health assessments to identify the unique needs and challenges faced by older adults, tailoring your approach to incorporate their cognitive, physical, and social contexts.
• Develop and execute individualized treatment plans that incorporate evidence-based therapeutic modalities and take the patient’s input into account.
• Provide individual and family therapy sessions that are evidence-based, using methodologies that are proven effective for geriatric patients.
• Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care, ensuring that treatment plans are integrated across all service providers involved with the patient.
• Manage crisis interventions, offering support and immediate care during mental health emergencies involving elderly patients.
• Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, the treatment process, and community resources available to support their well-being.
• Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of patient interactions and care plans, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
• Engage in team meetings, case consultations, and ongoing professional development activities to stay abreast of the latest best practices in geriatric mental health.
• Continuously pursue knowledge through current research and advancements within the field of geriatric psychiatry, ensuring that care practices remain relevant and effective.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Your primary focus will be on elderly patients, many of whom may be experiencing debilitating psychiatric conditions such as depression, anxiety, or cognitive impairment. You will work closely with individuals from various backgrounds and their families, employing a patient-centered approach that respects their dignity and autonomy while fostering therapeutic relationships.

Qualifications

• A Master's or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution is required.
• Must possess a current and valid licensure as an LCSW, LMHC, or LMFT in the state of New York.

Preferred Experience

• At least two years of post-licensure experience specializing in geriatric mental health is preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of geriatric mental health disorders and familiarity with evidence-based treatment modalities tailored for a senior population.
• Prior experience delivering individual and family therapy specifically to older adults is highly valued.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build rapport and establish trust with patients and their families.
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and the ability to work in a digital healthcare environment.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary for this position ranges from $75,000 to $100,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
