Key Responsibilities

• Conduct standardized patient care procedures, including assessing medical complaints and determining suitable treatments under the supervision of a licensed physician.
• Perform minor surgical procedures, assisting in complex operations as delegated by the attending surgeon, while ensuring adherence to established protocols.
• Manage pre-operative and post-operative care for patients, including thorough evaluations of surgical risks and complications, in coordination with supervising surgeons.
• Utilize advanced assessment skills to detect potential complications and communicate findings promptly to the supervising physician, enhancing patient safety and outcomes.
• Collect comprehensive patient histories and order relevant laboratory tests, interpreting results to inform patient management decisions.
• Provide pre and post-surgical patient education, empowering patients with knowledge about recovery and preventive health care practices.
• Monitor ongoing treatment plans, documenting any significant changes in patient status and notifying the attending physician as necessary.
• Maintain surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring that they are sterile, functional, and ready for surgical procedures.
• Be prepared to respond to emergency situations with confidence, following established protocols to ensure patient safety and care.
• Engage in continuous professional development and team meetings to stay updated on best practices and contribute to collaborative patient care strategies.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Our surgical center caters to a diverse patient population requiring orthopedic interventions. Patients range from young athletes sustaining sports injuries to older adults seeking joint replacements. A significant part of your role will involve building rapport with patients and their families to offer personalized care that addresses both their physical and emotional needs.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant studies; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• Possess current licensure as a Physician Assistant in California and certification from the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; additional specialty certifications may be required based on departmental needs.
• Proficient use of medical and surgical instruments relevant to orthopedic procedures is essential.

Preferred Experience

• Two years of hands-on experience as a Physician Assistant in a surgical or orthopedic setting is preferred, but will consider recent graduates with outstanding clinical performance during their training.
• Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems to document patient care and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams effectively.
• Experience in managing complex patient cases within an orthopedic context will be an asset.

Compensation and Benefits

This full-time position offers a competitive salary ranging between $140,000 and $180,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
