Work Environment

As a Physician Assistant in our Surgical Center, you will work onsite alongside a collaborative team consisting of attending physicians, surgical fellows, nurses, and other healthcare providers. The hospital environment fosters teamwork and promotes open communication to ensure efficient patient care. You will be involved with both inpatient and outpatient settings, offering a dynamic and enriching experience. The PA role entails a structured work schedule of five days a week, with eight-hour shifts from Monday to Friday, along with required on-call hours each month to accommodate patient needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate patients presenting with acute and chronic conditions related to liver transplantation, providing timely intervention and management.
• Conduct comprehensive medical histories and perform physical examinations, interpreting both normal and abnormal findings for new and returning patients.
• Order and evaluate necessary diagnostic tests, including lab work and imaging, to facilitate accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
• Administer prescribed medications per formulary guidelines and maintain detailed patient records in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate and manage the collection of specimens for lab tests and diagnostic procedures, including blood products and therapeutic interventions.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to facilitate a comprehensive care plan, including referrals to physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing services.
• Assist in surgical procedures within the operating room under the guidance of a supervising physician.
• Utilize effective communication to educate patients and their families on care plans, health maintenance, and recovery protocols.
• Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes within the liver transplant department.
• Ensure compliance with clinical policies and protocols, actively contributing to a safe and effective care environment.

Patient Population / Client Focus

This position primarily focuses on patients who are candidates for liver transplantation, including those dealing with complex medical histories and intricate healthcare needs. As a PA in our team, you will engage with a diverse patient demographic and be responsible for recognizing the unique healthcare requirements of each individual, particularly regarding age-specific needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
• Successful completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
• Current PA license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Possession of a valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.

Preferred Experience

• A minimum of one year of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant, preferably in surgical or transplant settings.
• Experience in managing complex patient cases and knowledge of liver disease processes are highly desirable.
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems and experience in coordinating multidisciplinary care teams.

Compensation and Benefits

The successful candidate can expect a competitive salary ranging from USD 140,000 to 180,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
