Key Responsibilities

• Respond promptly and effectively to trauma alerts, conducting thorough initial assessments of patients’ conditions.
• Stabilize patients and provide immediate care to prevent further deterioration, including performing essential life-saving interventions.
• Engage actively in resuscitation efforts within the emergency department, facilitating critical procedures and following established protocols.
• Coordinate care with the trauma team, ensuring seamless transitions and communication among all personnel involved in patient treatment.
• Conduct comprehensive physical examinations, interpret diagnostic results, and administer medications and therapies as prescribed by supervising physicians.
• Assist in invasive procedures, perform wound management, and provide education to patients and their families regarding trauma care and recovery processes.
• Monitor patient pain levels diligently and manage comfort through appropriate interventions and therapies.
• Document all patient interactions and treatment plans thoroughly to ensure compliance and continuity of care.
• Adhere to hospital infection control and safety protocols while providing care in a trauma setting.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant will primarily care for critically injured patients who present with various acute conditions, including traumatic injuries from accidents, falls, and other emergencies. You'll work to ensure that these patients receive timely and effective treatment to optimize their chances of recovery. Your ability to assess and manage diverse cases will directly impact patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in a related field, complemented by the completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current state licensure as a Physician Assistant, with certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Proven clinical skills in trauma and emergency medicine settings, specifically in assessment and treatment protocols.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary medical team and to support patient education and advocacy.
• Physical aptitude to assist with patient care and transportation in a demanding emergency environment.

Preferred Experience

• At least 2 years of direct experience in emergency medicine or trauma care contexts.
• Strong foundation in trauma assessment and stabilization protocols, along with familiarity with trauma-specific medications and interventions.
• A demonstrated commitment to ongoing education, with a particular focus on advancements in trauma medicine.

Compensation and Benefits

Diversity General Hospital offers a competitive salary range of $140,000 – $180,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
