Job Description
GENERAL OVERVIEW
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care within a fast-paced outpatient cardiology clinic. This role involves a wide range of nursing responsibilities, including patient assessment, education, and coordination of care for patients with various cardiovascular conditions. The RN collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare team members to ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patient Care
- Respond to patient inquiries and provide telephone triage as needed.
- Reviews patients' health status, including vital signs, medical history, and current symptoms.
- Educate patients and families about cardiovascular conditions, treatment plans, medications, and lifestyle modifications.
- Provide pre- and post-procedure care instructions for patients undergoing cardiovascular diagnostic tests and procedures.
- Manage patient flow within the clinic and assist with patient intake to ensure efficient and timely care.
- Route approved medication refills, complete medication prior authorization, initiate patient assistance.
- Rounds with the physician in the hospital.
- Scribe and document all patient interactions, assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and thoroughly in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other members of the healthcare team to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Advocate for patient needs and ensure patient rights are respected.
- Works closely with the medical secretary to ensure all orders are completed and followed up on to include communication with the patient.
- Schedules procedures closely coordinating the physicians schedule with the care team.
- Rotates weekend call/holiday call duties with the practice nurses to provide support on Saturday and Sunday and occasional holidays for call physicians. (Approximately 10 weekends per year.)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Missouri Registered Nurse license, and current CPR and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certifications required.
- Minimum of one-year professional nursing experience; clinic or ICU experience preferred.
- Previous experience in a cardiovascular clinic or related setting preferred.
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge of cardiovascular nursing principles.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Requires standing and walking, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Requires working under stressful conditions or working some irregular hours. Occasionally lifts up to 25 pounds, rarely assists with patient positioning.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Fast-paced outpatient clinic environment. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
