Responsible for assisting residentswith daily exercises as identified by the nursing and rehabilitationdepartments in an effort to promote physical well-being and use of arms, legs,and other body functions in accordance to laws, regulations, and facilityguidelines.
Job Duties:
- Assists residentswith daily range of motion and strength training exercise routines as providedby nursing and rehabilitation.
- Provides qualitynursing care to residents, including transfers and ambulation
- Assists residentsin the care of prosthesis or amputations
- Ensures properbed and wheelchair positioning of residents
- Provides assistanceto residents with eating and swallowing exercises
- Delivers mealsand performs feeding assistance to residents
- Ensures cleanlinessof water pitchers and provides refills of fresh water as needed
- Performs vitalsign monitoring/charting and observes residents for changes in condition orbehavior and reports to nursing supervisors
- Providesassistance with lifting, turning, moving, transporting or transferringresidents
- Monitorsincontinent residents to ensure bed linens and clothing are clean and dry
- Reduces the riskof skin breakdown by promptly reporting observations of skin breakdown pressureareas
- Communicates changesand ensures plan of care if being followed through effectively recordingchanges in charts
Other Job Duties:
- Adheres tofacility admission, discharge and transfer policies and prepares resident roomsfor arrival
- Answers residentcall lights promptly and courteously
- Assists residentswith toileting and bed pans
- Promotes interdepartmentalteamwork to meet resident needs
- Promotes anenvironment of positive public relations by displaying a calm, caring, warm andfriendly atmosphere in department and on each shift
- Provides trainingto new CNAs upon request
- Arrives to workas scheduled and makes rounds with previous shift
- Attends requiredin-service training programs
Skills
- Mustpossess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language, communicateresident condition to others and make independent decisions as needed
- Musthave common working knowledge of all rules, laws, and regulations as defined bythe state as it relates to skilled nursing
- Mustbe patient, friendly, courteous and respectful to residents in any situation,including difficult ones
- Mustbe able to move frequently throughout the workday, answer resident call bells,assist with baths, showers, toileting, feeding and personal grooming of theresidents
- Mustbe able to handle sensitive situations related to emotional well-being of theresidents with patience, dignity, and respect
- Mustbe able to life 40lbs floor to waist, lift 20lbs waist to shoulder, lift andcarry 40lbs and push and pull 40lbs
Experience:
Minimum ofsix (6) months experience in a long-term care or other geriatric careenvironment is preferred
Education and Certification:
- HighSchool diploma or equivalent
- Successfullycompleted a state-approved Certified Nursing Assistant program
- Possessa current certification in good standing or be able to obtain certificationwithin four (4) months of employment, if allowable by the state.
