- Weekly Gross: Up to $1,500/week (Based on Experience)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) to support a busy Surgical Services department within a 277-bed acute care hospital. The SPT plays a critical role in maintaining patient safety by ensuring surgical instruments and medical equipment are properly decontaminated, assembled, sterilized, stored, and distributed for clinical use.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform decontamination, cleaning, and disinfection of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
- Inspect, assemble, package, and prepare instrument trays and procedure sets for sterilization.
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment, including steam and low-temperature sterilizers.
- Maintain accurate sterilization records, biological testing logs, and tracking documentation.
- Manage inventory and stock levels of sterile supplies.
- Identify damaged or malfunctioning instruments and coordinate repair or replacement.
- Distribute sterile instruments and supplies to operating rooms and patient care areas.
- Follow infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with Surgical Services staff to support procedural and operational needs.
- Float between like units or departments as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Sterile Processing Technician experience required.
- First-time travelers accepted.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Current Sterile Processing certification preferred or required per facility policy (CRCST/HSPA preferred).
- Strong knowledge of:
- Sterilization methods and equipment
- Surgical instrumentation
- Infection prevention and control practices
- Instrument tray assembly and processing workflows
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced acute care environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) CRCST Certification
- Prior acute care hospital experience
- Experience supporting high-volume surgical services departments
